The Reality

Most international buyers lose money
before the container arrives.

Indonesia's furniture industry is extraordinary. Grade A teak, masterful rattan weaving, live-edge acacia, reclaimed Javanese wood — craftsmanship that costs a fraction of what it would in Europe or North America.

But sourcing from overseas, without eyes on the factory floor, without Indonesian language fluency, without on-the-ground relationships — it creates risk at every stage. And the consequences are expensive.

Quality does not match the approved sample
Production-grade pieces arrive looking nothing like the prototype you approved three months ago.
Deadlines slip without warning
Factories overpromise. Production delays compound. You find out weeks after the damage is done.
Compliance failures at customs
Missing SVLK certification, incorrect COO, or absent EUDR documentation can hold or block your shipment entirely.
Payment with no recourse
Once funds transfer, leverage disappears. Without a local presence, disputes are nearly impossible to resolve.

Why Indonesia

The world's most compelling
furniture sourcing destination

No country matches Indonesia for the combination of raw material quality, artisan skill, production capacity, and price competitiveness.

World-Class Raw Materials
Indonesia holds some of the world's largest teak plantations, plus abundant acacia, mahogany, mindi, suar, and the largest rattan supply on earth. The materials are extraordinary — and legally certified.
80%
of global rattan supply originates from Indonesia
Generational Craftsmanship
The furniture workshops of Jepara, Cirebon, and Bali have operated for centuries. Skills pass through families. Joinery, hand-carving, and rattan weaving reach standards impossible to replicate at scale elsewhere.
500+
years of woodworking tradition in Central Java
Unmatched Price Competitiveness
Factory-direct pricing from Indonesia runs 40–70% below equivalent quality in Western markets. A structural cost advantage driven by labour economics, raw material proximity, and currency dynamics.
40–70%

Why Buyers Trust Us

We are not a marketplace.
We are accountable.

Most "Indonesian furniture sourcing" services are directories or brokers — no legal registration, no factory visits, no accountability. Teak Route is different.

PT-Registered in Indonesia Since 2016
A fully registered Indonesian Perseroan Terbatas company — verifiable through the government OSS portal. Not an individual, not a WhatsApp number. A legal entity you can hold accountable.
Own Export License — No Broker
We hold our own Izin Ekspor from the Indonesian Ministry of Trade. Your shipment is handled directly under our license — no third-party broker or opaque intermediary involved.
Physical Pre-Shipment Inspection on Every Order
Before any container is loaded, our team physically inspects every piece against a 100-point checklist. You receive a full photo report. We do not load containers we have not inspected.
Legal Timber — SVLK on Every Shipment
SVLK timber legality certification is mandatory on every shipment we handle. We do not work with factories that cannot demonstrate legal wood origin and full supply chain traceability.

We had tried three Indonesian suppliers before Teak Route — and failed with all three. Missed deadlines, substandard pieces, paperwork errors at customs. Teak Route was completely different. Every stage was documented. The QC photos were sent before I even had to ask. And the container arrived exactly as agreed.

What global buyers say
about working with us

The quality control process alone was worth every dollar of their fee. I could see exactly what was going into my container, piece by piece. No surprises on arrival — which had never happened to me before with Indonesian suppliers.

Our resort needed 400 pieces for a full FF&E refurbishment. Teak Route coordinated across three factories, delivered consolidated QC reports, and the EUDR documentation was completely clean. We came in ahead of schedule.

As a first-time importer I was nervous. Teak Route explained every step, set realistic expectations, and flagged a quality issue mid-production that would have cost me significantly. That transparency is everything.

About Us

Built by people who know
Indonesia's factories intimately

A licensed, on-the-ground sourcing team in Jakarta with nearly a decade of direct factory relationships across the archipelago.

Who We Are

Your eyes, ears & hands
on the ground in Indonesia

Teak Route was founded to solve a problem we kept watching repeat itself: international buyers, genuinely excited about Indonesian furniture, losing money — to low-quality production, missed deadlines, missing certifications, or suppliers who became unreachable after payment arrived.

Indonesia's furniture industry is genuinely extraordinary. The craftsmanship of Jepara's woodworkers, the rattan artisans of Cirebon, the innovative design studios of Bali — these represent world-class manufacturing that global buyers deserve access to. But navigating it from overseas, without language skills, factory relationships, or on-the-ground presence, is genuinely difficult and genuinely risky.

We exist to bridge that gap. Behind Teak Route is PT Martin Ind Group, a fully registered Indonesian PT company incorporated in Jakarta, operating in the furniture and export sector since 2016. We carry our own export license, maintain direct factory relationships across Java, Bali, and Sulawesi, and have handled shipments to buyers across the USA, Europe, Australia, the Middle East, and beyond.

We source furniture across Indonesia — from the teak workshops of Central Java to the rattan artisans of Cirebon, the craft studios of Bali, and the hardwood manufacturers of Sulawesi. Our main office is located in Jakarta Pusat, the commercial heart of Indonesia.

Our Principles

Five values we never compromise

Verified Trust
Every factory in our network has been physically visited and personally assessed by our team. Not listed from a directory — walked through, vetted, and approved by a human being who knows what to look for.
Authentic Craft
We prioritise artisan workshops and family-run factories alongside larger manufacturers — because the best Indonesian furniture is made by skilled people, not assembly lines.
Global Fluency
We understand international buyer expectations, EUDR compliance requirements, customs documentation, and the commercial logic behind every sourcing decision you make.
Radical Transparency
If a timeline is too aggressive, a price too low, or a factory not right for your product — we will tell you upfront. Honesty protects both parties and builds lasting relationships.
Long-term Partnership
Repeat clients receive better factory access, priority production scheduling, and collaborative design development. We grow with the businesses we choose to work with.

“Built for buyers who have been burned before — and buyers who want to make sure they never are.”

Sourcing Guide

How to source quality furniture
from Indonesia — the right way

Practical guidance for international retailers, designers, and hospitality buyers navigating the Indonesian furniture market for the first time — or trying to do it better.

Why This Guide Exists

Indonesia is extraordinary.
Getting it right is not automatic.

Indonesia exports over US$2.4 billion in furniture annually to global markets — and for good reason. The raw materials, the craftsmanship, the pricing, the scale of production capacity: no country matches it.

But too many international buyers approach it without understanding the risks, the process, or the documentation requirements of their destination market. This guide covers the five steps that separate successful sourcing relationships from expensive mistakes — based on years of on-the-ground experience in Indonesia.

Indonesian timber sourcing and supply chain

“Sourcing furniture internationally requires strategic planning to ensure quality, reliability, and seamless transactions. Partnering with a verified, registered supplier — one with a physical presence, valid business registration, and a demonstrable export track record — is the single most important decision a buyer makes.”

01
Partner with a Verified, Registered Supplier
The most important decision you will make. A reputable partner has a professional presence, transparent factory location, valid business registration, export certifications, and a demonstrable track record with international buyers. Verify everything before you transfer any funds.
Look for PT or CV registration — not just a WhatsApp number or Alibaba listing
Confirm they hold their own export license (Izin Ekspor), not a broker arrangement
Ask for international client references and completed export documentation from past orders
Verify SVLK certification — legally required for all Indonesian wood product exports
02
Verify Product Specifications Before Bulk Production
Never go straight from a price agreement to bulk production. Every buyer we've seen lose money skipped this step. A formal specification sheet and approved prototype, documented before production starts, is non-negotiable protection.
Request detailed material specs: wood species, grade, kiln-drying process, finish type
Obtain a photo-documented prototype with formal written approval on file
Document every agreed specification in writing — dimensions, tolerances, finish codes, hardware
Establish a clear revision process with milestones before production commences
03
Understand Your Shipping & Export Terms
Incoterms define who holds risk at each stage of the journey. Getting this wrong is expensive. Most Indonesian furniture exports are quoted FOB — but CIF and EXW arrangements are also common and may suit different buyer situations.
FOB (Free on Board): Risk transfers to you at the port of origin
CIF (Cost, Insurance, Freight): Supplier arranges freight to your destination port
EXW (Ex Works): You collect from the factory — maximum control, maximum responsibility
Confirm production and delivery timelines in writing, with milestone payment linkages
04
Secure Your Transactions Properly
Payment security is the underrated half of risk management in Indonesian sourcing. The right payment structure means you retain leverage throughout production and are never in a position where you've paid in full and lost influence.
Milestone payments tied to production stages — never 100% upfront
Letter of Credit (L/C) for large first-time orders with new suppliers
Retain a percentage of payment until pre-shipment QC is completed and approved
Always formalise with a signed Purchase Agreement covering specs, timelines, and remedies
05
Build Long-Term Factory Relationships
The economics of Indonesian sourcing improve dramatically over repeat orders. Priority production slots, collaborative design access, better pricing, and a factory team that truly knows your quality standards — these are the dividends of consistent, professional long-term partnerships.
Consistent orders create leverage for better pricing and production priority
Long-term partners develop design capability aligned specifically to your market
A track record of professional payments opens access to exclusive factory capabilities
Regular communication and transparency build the trust that protects future orders
Why Indonesia

Three structural advantages
that make Indonesia irreplaceable

Sustainable Materials
Eco-certified teak, FSC-verified plantation wood, and responsibly harvested rattan — Indonesia's natural material supply is among the most regulated and traceable in the world when properly sourced through a licensed partner.
Superior Craftsmanship
Generations of skilled artisans in Jepara, Cirebon, and Bali deliver quality and detail that cannot be replicated at scale. Hand-mortise joinery, hand-woven rattan, hand-carved panels — genuine craft passed through families.
Cost Efficiency
Direct factory sourcing eliminates middlemen and accesses Indonesia's structural cost advantages — labour economics, raw material proximity, and exchange rate dynamics that consistently benefit international buyers.
